Custom LED Setup

I outfitted an LED rig for performance artist DJ Astrofreq. The artist performs at Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return. He houses his equipment on a metal cart and wanted to spice up the appearance. I created an LED “shield” that mounted on the front of his cart and allowed him to control the 120 LEDs using an app on his phone.

For this project I used a polycarb sheet and ran 120 NeoPixel LEDs (WS8212B) around the four borders. An ESP32 microcontroller, running WLED, functions as a webserver which allows the artist to control the NeoPixels via the WLED app on his phone. Corrugated plastic served as a diffusion material, layered over the NeoPixel strips. The ESP32 was concealed in an old SD Card case which mounted neatly beneath the cart.
