parasympathy ii

Upcycled materials and electronics are used to bring this playful dystopian robotic creature to life.  In a future where only used materials exist he was assembled from found materials: some wiring, a tupperware dish, doll arms and miscellaneous electronics.

The creature “sees” you via an ultrasonic sensor. Akin to radar, he is able detect how close you are.  He expresses himself by making chirps and bleeps through a speaker, flashing and changing colors of LEDs, and moving two attached doll arms with servos.  The closer you get to the creature the more excited it becomes, and as you move away he becomes more docile.

Materials: discarded pipe, tupperware, dolls and a shipping box

Electronic components: HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor, NeoPixel Ring (WS8212) with 16 LEDs, NeoPixel Ring (WS8212) with 24 LEDs, Servo (SG92R), 8 ohm speaker, Arduino Uno
